Pembilier Nursing Center: N.D. Long-Term Care Conference 2025

Hello from your friends at PNC! As I had mentioned in a previous article, May 6-9, I attended the N.D. Long-Term Care Conference in Bismarck. I also mentioned that I was set to give a presentation entitled “After Death Care: Supporting Staff and Families through Grief.” Last week you learned that I did survive the presentation, but let me fill you in on what happened leading up to that point.

Kids sometimes say the cutest things, and until they get full language formation, phrases and words will sound different sometimes. Case in point: a child saying “olive you a lot” to their mom at a restaurant. Maybe the child was really clever or maybe they just happened to be holding and eating an olive at the time, in any case, it was cute. It also brought me to thinking about olives and how people either love them or don’t with not much in between. I personally know of someone who treats olives as their own food group.

“I am concerned your symptoms are due to Parkinson’s disease,” is something I have said to numerous patients over the years. This is a degenerative neurologic disease which is common enough that most patients have heard of it or even know someone living with it.

An Idaho company has released a glow-in-the-dark petunia called Firefly Petunia. By day, the plant looks like an ordinary white-flowered bedding plant. After the sun goes down, the plant reveals its superpower by emitting a faint green glow. While the glow is noticeable, it isn’t bright enough to keep your neighbors awake at night.
