Annual Memorial Day ceremony to be held at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery

MANDAN, N.D. — The 2026 Memorial Day Ceremony will begin at noon Monday, May 25, at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, located 6.5 miles south of Mandan on North Dakota Highway 1806. Hosted by the North Dakota National Guard and the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, the annual event honors deceased American servicemen and women and is free to the public. The first observance was held in 1993.

The Langdon Area School Board will hold elections and a building fund levy vote June 9, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Langdon Area High School. There will be four positions up for election, with Justin Cheatley, Dawn Kruk and Kyle Rollness on the ballot and one open position for which nobody petitioned, so it will be a writein race. Another part of the ballot is a vote to increase the 3-mill building fund levy authority by 5 mills, giving the board the authority to levy up to 8 mills in the building fund.

Wind, dust and fire danger create hazardous week across northern North Dakota

Powerful winds, blowing dust, and extreme fire danger created hazardous conditions across northern North Dakota throughout the week of May 1115, with wind gusts topping 50 mph in parts of the region and prompting multiple weather alerts. The strongest conditions arrived May 14-15 as sustained winds of 25-35 mph swept across eastern North Dakota, including Cavalier and Pembina counties. Gusts reached more than 50 mph in some areas, while parts of western North Dakota reported gusts approaching 70 mph.

Free school meals measure in North Dakota approved for November vote

North Dakotans will vote in November on a mandate that the state must pay for meals for K-12 students. The North Dakota Secretary of State’s Office announced Thursday it has approved a sufficient number of signatures submitted by the Together for School Meals coalition to place the initiated measure on the Nov.

Braunberger, Moe named N.D. County Teachers of the Year Two local educators were among the 50 teachers recognized as 2026 North Dakota County Teachers of the Year by the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction. Emily Braunberger of Langdon Area Schools was named the Cavalier County Teacher of the Year, while Jeffrey Moe of North Border School District was selected as Pembina County Teacher of the Year. Ashleigh Blikre of Ely Elementary School in Pierce County was also honored. Blikre is formerly of Langdon. According to the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction, the educators were selected for their outstanding contributions to education and their school communities. The teachers will be recognized during a special event June 23 at the North Dakota State Capitol in Bismarck. North Dakota Superintendent of Public Instruction Levi Bachmeier congratulated the educators as part of the statewide announcement.

HHS expands access to Parent-Child Interaction Therapy through telehealth

North Dakota Health and Human Services (HHS) FamilyFirst Services now offers Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) through telehealth by an approved provider to eligible families. Parent-Child Interaction Therapy is an evidence-based program for children ages 2 to 7 and their parents or caregivers. It is designed to improve child behavior, strengthen parenting skills and build healthier parent-child relationships.
