Merry Christmas! Can you believe it? This Sunday, we will light the fourth candle on our Advent wreaths...the candle of Love...as we remember the words from John 3:16, that many of us memorized as a child; “For God so loved the word He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.” We are reminded that the greatest gift of Christmas is not under our Christmas tree. It is a gift that cannot be bought in any store.

Prairie Doc Perspective Anatomical variations: connecting research and patient care

Body
The human body is composed of a typical pattern of anatomy, yet every structure varies in form from person to person. For example, humans develop with a standard set of defined muscles, yet the shape and mass of each muscle varies significantly among individuals. Sometimes, “anatomical variations” develop – that is, anatomical structures that do not conform to the typical range of regular morphology (for example, an entirely separate “extra” muscle that develops in one person).

Dakota Gardener: The origins of mistletoe kisses

Body
I have never been kissed under a sprig of mistletoe. However, mistletoe is prominently featured in Christmas songs such as Frank Sinatra’s “Mistletoe and Holly,” “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus,” and more recently Justin Bieber’s “Mistletoe.” The magical world of Harry Potter isn’t safe from mistletoe, as the main character and Cho Chang learned. Is there an interesting origin story for this kiss-inducing plant or is this just a Hallmark Channel plot device?

A guest series: ‘His Brother’s Flag’ - part three of three

Note from the Editor: We would like to introduce you to this beautifully written piece from Tina Stradal. ‘His Brother’s Flag’ was written throughout a series of years and countless hours of research conducted by Stradal. Of all of her family members, Stradal took an intense interest in this story and hopes it, along with the memory of these brave soldiers, will be preserved for generations to come. Stradal currently resides in Mora, Minnesota, but the soldiers in this story resided on the family farm which was a few miles outside of Langdon on County Road 1.
