Wally Melsted was recently recognized for 60 years of continuous membership in the American Legion, highlighting decades of service and commitment to the organization. Melsted was honored alongside several fellow Legion members celebrating milestone anniversaries, including Tom Hardy (47 years), Lyle Carpenter (50 years), Dale Anderson (50 years), William Zeller (40 years), Steven Melsted (39 years) and Robert Pitcher (50 years).

LANGDON, N.D. – As part of a statewide effort highlighted in the North Dakota Monitor, the North Dakota Military Gallery tour will make a stop in Langdon on April 7. The event will be held at 5 p.m. at the Langdon American Legion and is free and open to the public.

Langdon’s track and field history includes several athletes who have left their mark at the state level. Phil Farris put Langdon on the map in 1976 with a long jump of 23 feet, 6½ inches — a mark that ranked among the best in North Dakota Class A history at the time.

The other day, someone gave me the best compliment: “Your son got the right mother.” It was meant as a positive and was very unexpected (from someone that I don’t know all that well). Some days are a little easier to be a mom than others, so I wasn’t so sure I deserved the compliment. Then I read an article about one of the most horrifying abuse cases in the state of California, and I decided that some days, I probably do a fairly decent job. Parenting is difficult. It’s also very rewarding. The fun, excitement and joy that can come with parenthood is something that not everyone gets to experience. Being responsible for children can be the most rewarding experience of a lifetime. Parenting can also be challenging, especially when we are faced with hardships, get attitudes from our children and have to guide them to be better people.
