For Dawn Kruk, a recent kidney transplant has brought something many take for granted—relief, gratitude and a renewed outlook on life.

Kruk, who was first diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease at age 18, said the condition has been part of her life for decades. With a family history that includes both her father and grandmother, she knew early on the diagnosis was a possibility.
