Mass of Christian Burial was held May 3, 2025, in Michigan, N.D., for Dorine Dorothy Gerstner, 100, who passed away April 29, 2025, at Maple Manor Care Center in Langdon, N.D. Burial was at the Michigan Cemetery.

Dorine was born on April 17, 1925, the daughter of Joseph and Albina (Zizka) Kubat, on the family farm near Lawton, N.D. She attended grade school and junior high at Sauter School and graduated from Whitman High School in 1943. In August of that same year, she took her first job as a clerk in the Johnson Store in Whitman. On Nov. 12, 1947, she married Louis Gerstner at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Lomice, rural Lawton. Dorine continued clerking at the Johnson Store until 1953 when it became a family- owned Gerstner-Matejcek General Store. In 1961 she became employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Whitman as a clerk and later became U.S. Postmaster, retiring after 20 years. In 2010, Dorine moved to Langdon, and in 2019, she entered Maple Manor Care Center.

Dorine’s love of traveling with her husband took them to many sites of interest in the U.S. as well as countries abroad. She also enjoyed baking, sewing, caring for flowers and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church and their Catholic Women’s Club of Michigan. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 238 of Michigan.

Dorine is survived by her two daughters, Jennifer (John) Horihan of Lanesboro, Minn. and Pam (Stuart) Paulson of Langdon, N.D.; six grandchildren: Jason (Lynn) Horihan of Hillsboro, Ore., Ryan Horihan of Peoria, Ill., Derek Paulson of West Fargo, N.D., Kevin (Laura) Horihan of Lanesboro, Minn., Tanya Paulson of Minneapolis, Minn., and Erin (Scott) Richnavsky of Plymouth, Minn.; nine great-grandchildren: William, Matthew, Mae Rose, Nora, Liam, Fiona, and Rafe Horihan, Emma and Nolan Richnavsky; her godchild, Dawn Miller; and a special friend, Cindy Legg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis, in 2005; parents; and brothers, Harold (Marge) Kubat and Eugene (Marge) Kubat.
