Douglas Romfo

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2026, with visitation starting at Noon at United Methodist Church in Langdon, N.D., for Douglas Romfo, 71, formerly of Hannah and Langdon, N.D., who passed away September 16, 2026, in Gilbert, Ariz. Burial will be at Hannah Cemetery, Hannah, N.D.

Doug was born in Crystal City, Manitoba, to parents Cecelia (Groff) and Ronald Romfo of Hannah, N.D. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Hannah High School. He continued his education at Devils Lake Regional College, where he studied mechanics. Doug married Karla Badding in Hannah on November 20, 1976, and they made their first home in Hannah. They welcomed two children: Becky Anne on May 13, 1980, and Kevin Michael on July 8, 1983.

Doug farmed and ran his own trucking business. He hauled grain to Duluth, Minn., and a reefer of produce from the West Coast to Winnipeg, Manitoba. In 1986, Doug and Karla moved to Langdon. He discovered his love of flying and started a crop spraying business, Border Aviation, with Arvid and John Boe. In 2006, Doug retired, and they moved to Gilbert, Ariz. He worked for a time for Alan Otto, and then back in ND, helping his friend, George Deplazes, with his ready-mix company.

Doug loved racing – racing his sports cars on the streets in his youth and his motorcycle. He got back into racing after Kevin got his driver’s license. They spent many hours building race cars and racing together. He was especially proud of his wins with the Midwest Wild Bunch. In 2013, Kevin and Sam moved to Arizona, followed by Becky and Charlie. He enjoyed having all his family together, especially for the holidays and race days! Becky moved back to ND but returned to assist her dad with his many health issues, appointments and surgeries. He loved his dogs, Ryder and Max. He had special friends in Arizona, Clayton Evans and Gianni Romano.

Surviving Doug are his wife, Karla; daughter Becky (Dustin); son Kevin (Sam); five grandchildren: Charlie, Kathryn, Reid, Lydia and Barrett; brother Rick (Peggy); sister Tammy Bodnar; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Oscar & Hilda Romfo and John & Elsie Groff; his parents; and an infant brother, Randy.
