Body

A memorial service was held on May 6, 2026, in Langdon, N.D., for Richard “Wayne” Reid, who left this life to be with the Lord on April 28, 2026.

Richard Wayne Reid (Sr.), who went by “Wayne”, was born on October 8, 1963, in Lancaster Cty., Cali., and left this life to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. Whenever anyone asked him where he was born, he liked to say he was born in California, but he left as soon as he could! Wayne and his family moved a lot, his stepfather being in the oil supply business, but he grew up mostly in west Texas and graduated from Lee High School in Midland, Texas, in 1982. Right after graduation, he moved to Shreveport, La., where his parents had recently moved and enrolled in Louisiana State University-Shreveport, where he met his future wife, Tammy, in his first days of college. They were married in Shreveport the following year, November 1983. One month after their marriage, Wayne left for Air Force basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas. At the end of basic training, Wayne was stationed at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, Texas, where Tammy soon joined him.

Wayne was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1989, having had training as both an x-ray technician and a nuclear medicine technician – vocations he would not have voluntarily chosen, but it seemed God and the military had other plans. He began a lifelong career in the medical field.

Over these many years, Wayne was able to extend his training, including earning an MBA in Health Care Management and a BA in Healthcare Administration and served positions as chief technologist and then director over medical imaging services then into more administrative positions. He has served as vice president, COO and CEO in many different hospitals and locations across the country. He served on a variety of both hospital and community boards and was the initiator and the driving force for implementing a variety of cutting-edge procedures and studies at various hospitals. He worked to make the hospitals he served more productive, more efficient, and more streamlined and to increase moral and to have a more visible and interactive presence in the communities they served. His list of accomplishments is long and varied, and the friends he has made throughout this life are scattered across the country.

He and his wife were involved in Little League sports and Boy Scouts when his sons were younger. He was in a bowling league for a time. Here in Langdon, he was a member of the local Langdon area pool league team, the “Hwy 5 Hustlers,” and loved the game and camaraderie of his teammates. He loved working with wood and listening to and singing country music, watching good movies and tinkering with home automation, and running his Yarbo robot mower and his skid steer. He liked photography, computers, and occasionally doing maintenance on his vehicles. He dreamed of fast cars, airplanes, and someday traveling across the country to see the sights.

He has been a beloved husband to his wife, Tammy, and was a strong, loving, and proud father to four sons: Chad, Colby, Cameron and Christopher, who will all miss him dearly.

He was humbled and immensely grateful for the love and support the Langdon Hospital and Community here have given to him and his family. May God bless each and every one of you in abundance.
