My sincere apologies to one of my loyal fans, Stanley Dick, for not getting my article done last week before leaving on vacation. I appreciate the disappointment you felt in not being able to read another exciting article about life in the not so fast lane of the Goodman household. I’m sure Matt Mitzel was disappointed, too, but he’d never admit it.

We all have tasks that need to be done, and we dread it every time. I’m not talking about washing windows, painting the ceiling or folding four loads of laundry.

By Bob Simmons, CEO, Simmons Multimedia Perhaps, just like you, as I paged through this newspaper last week, I was saddened to learn that Chris Sanders announced his resignation as county coroner during a recent Cavalier County Commission meeting. According to the article that appeared on page A2 of the Aug. 8 edition of The Borderland Press, the commissioners must now work to fill this position. It won’t be easy. Ideas include contracting the position out to the coroner in neighboring Pembina County, offering the job to a local physician, or perhaps Cavalier County Sheriff Matt Wright might want to take on the responsibilities.

It’s been a crazy week here in the offices of The Borderland Press! First off, it’s obnoxious that it’s back to school season ALREADY! Then, what started as a small three page back to school section in the regular paper, turned into an *eight page* special section! I’m sending out my most sincere apologies for the teachers, staff, and administrators who I hassled at an already chaotic time of the school year! However, I’m glad that we are able to help the community get to know who these awesome staff members are who will be enriching the area’s youth this year. It takes a special person to fill these rolls, and we should all be grateful for them and their dedication.

Ever notice how many towns are named after their water tower?

By Bob Simmons, CEO, Simmons Multimedia From my upstairs west window perch of Bob Simmons World Headquarters in our company’s corporate office, I’m watching in amazement of the work being performed on one of the city’s two water towers. Being the curious Bob that I am, I reached out to Andrew Aakre with Moore Engineering, the firm contracted by the city to manage these major municipal projects.

After a series of unfortunate events, including boat issues, boat lift issues and broken bone issues, I finally enjoyed my first boat ride of the summer last weekend. It was a beautiful Sunday morning last weekend at the lake, so we filled our coffee cups and away we went.

I’ll start this week off by once again thanking Rebecca Davis for helping me get a vacation in last week. I’ve taken plenty of working vacations before, but the quality time just isn’t the same when you’ve got gears constantly turning in the back of your head and a laptop that needs to be checked constantly.

I’m speaking to the men living within the Langdon Area Schools district. If you’re looking for a nuanced examination of gender roles in rural N.D., you won’t find it here.

Happy National Raspberry Cream Pie Day! I’m not even kidding, it’s a real day. I’d love a piece of raspberry cream pie today.
