The Morning Stroll and Cuppa Joe: A million dollar sleep

Body
If I was given a choice between a million dollars or a full night of uninterrupted sleep for the rest of my life, I would choose sleep. People that don’t suffer from insomnia or only have the occasional night of restlessness wouldn’t understand. If I had to curse my worst enemy with something, it would be insomnia. My voodoo doll would have pin cushions in the eyelids holding them open and no curtains on the windows of their bedroom in the summer.

Pick a state - California, Utah, Florida, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado and Wyoming. I’ve driven all over the place- New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, DC, Virginia, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, and throughout the midwest states of Ohio, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, you name it. Yes, Hawaii, too.

After four years of being with Simmons Multimedia, I’ve gotten pretty good at my Bob Simmons impressions. For a petite blonde, I think I’ve gotten quite the hang of the deep, bolstering voice that can only belong to an old disk jockey who lives, eats, and breathes everything radio.

Prairie Doc® Perspective: Rethinking how we experience pain

Body
Pain is a universal human experience, yet it remains one of the most misunderstood aspects of health. Traditional views often equate pain directly with physical injury, but modern pain science challenges this simplistic understanding. Pain is a multifaceted phenomenon involving sensory, emotional, and cognitive factors. This perspective advocates for a holistic approach to pain management, emphasizing the nervous system’s role and empowering individuals to retrain their pain response.

As the Langdon Area Schools referendum draws near, I want to share some perspective I have gained from the referendum process. 1) First off and foremost, this entire effort is for the kids! Their academic success, safety and well-being are the center of this entire process.

The Morning Stroll and Cuppa Joe: Home for the summer

Body
Gage is home for the summer, but instead of living in town in our small, cramped guest bedroom, he has taken up residence at the farm. He’s basically roommates with his grandpa, Bernie, and has the entire basement to himself. There’s a sizable bedroom, a bathroom, workout room, office, living room, an unused hot tub room and a storage room. It’s bigger than a studio apartment and perfect for a single college kid with nothing but a toothbrush and some clothes for his worldly possessions. He’s loving the space, his independence and the chance to test his living on his own (kind of) skills like laundry and cooking.

How is your June going so far? Off to a good start? I’m happy to say that mine is shaping up quite nicely. Our weekend at the lake started out a bit smokey, but thankfully, it did subside a bit, and we were able to spend plenty of time outdoors.

My goodness it’s been a busy week, and I just now am starting to feel like I can breathe again! As soon as we got back from Puerto Rico, it was time to put my nose to the grindstone and get to work on finishing our lovely annual Summer Fun Guide, which can be found inside this issue of your favorite hometown newspaper. So much work goes into this special section, and we hope it’s a helpful tool to keep you busy with fun events and activities throughout the warmer months.

Much to my surprise, we experienced one of the nicest weekends at the lake that we can remember. The sun came out and stayed, and the wind took the long weekend off.
