Multimedia As you learned last week, I have always been obsessed with flight. When the opportunity presented itself to take free flying lessons, I couldn’t get to the doctor’s office fast enough for the required physical.

What is your favorite cold weather activity? Well, maybe I should say ‘activities’ in plural form since our winters are so long? I almost couldn’t believe my eyes when I read Katie Henry’s column discussing turkey safety. It’s nearly Thanksgiving!? What? One thing I love about this time of year is sweater weather.

A friend and I made our annual drive to Walhalla this past weekend for the holiday events at Blu Soul Design, Mimi’s Boutique, and lunch at The Cure (so good). Then we hopped back in the car and motored to Cavalier to visit Rose Berry Picks and a few other spots there.

Wow! Have you seen the lineup of Christmas events scheduled for the community of Langdon? We’re going to be having some fun, people! Food, drink, cash, shopping, parade, decorations, lights, friends and family! Then, look down the road to the neighboring towns and find another list of great holiday events. Kudos to the ‘village’ it takes for each community to provide this holiday goodness for its residents! A great way to show your appreciation is to shop your hometown businesses! I’m cooking Thanksgiving dinner this year for our family.

I have always been fascinated by airplanes, helicopters, rockets and anything that flies. Years ago in another radio market far, far away, we had an advertiser who owned a flight school. He couldn’t afford the full price of the advertising on the radio station, so he proposed offering the morning guy (me) flight lessons in trade for a portion of the ad cost. I, in turn, would share with my audience all the things I was learning and entice listeners into also taking flying lessons.

As you read this, we are just a handful of days away from the November column you’ll know our newspapers policy regarding political opinion, and if you’re a new reader and don’t know how we come down on candidates and issues, here it is – we have no opinion. Espousing our views has no place within these pages. As with our radio stations, we don’t take sides but prefer to offer the facts: who-whatwhere- when and sometimes why. Using your own powers of critical thinking, it’s incumbent on you to read, listen and watch and thereby arrive at your own decisions. I was shocked, but pleasantly surprised, to learn last week that both the Los Angeles Times and The Washington Post are not endorsing a presidential candidate this cycle. Many see this as a step in the right direction.

Last week we got down and dirty with my pumpkin stories of years past. This week, in observance of one of my favorite holidays, we are going to talk about the creepy and weird things that Halloween provides an opportunity for me to enjoy.
