Cards host first-ever school day game; end five-game losing streak

It's been busy, busy times for the Langdon-Munich Cardinals boys basketball team. They got stormed out for a home game versus North Star Feb. 6 then made it up for what was the first-ever during the school day game in Cardinals basketball history on Feb. 7. They ended up losing a very exciting contest 62-60. The Cards then played at North Prairie in Rolla on Feb. 10 and ended a fivegame losing streak, 61-52, and had a makeup game the next night at Park River-Fordville-Lankin, winning that contest 54-47. After their latest run, the Cardinals find themselves even on the season with a record of 8-8. After playing a home game in Munich versus eighth-ranked New Rockford-Sheyenne on Feb. 13, they have their Senior Night hosting St. John in Langdon on Feb. 18. Cards seniors Cody Amble, Jayden Lee, and Jake Sanders will be honored along with their parents before the game. Langdon-Munich then closes out their regular season with a non-conference game at Benson County in Leeds on Feb. 20. Here is a recap of their last three games: North Star 62, Langdon-Munich 60 The Cards had good fortune of playing their first school day game thanks to the weather, and a huge crowd was on hand for the game, including the entire K-12 student bodies from Langdon and Munich.

The Langdon Blades Junior Gold hockey team took a break from their North Dakota league schedule to play at the tournament in Siren, Wisc. Feb. 7-9. There they were in an eight-team field that featured teams from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa and North Dakota. The Blades played very well in three games and took second in the tourney. Langdon has their last home weekend of hockey coming up, playing Northwood at 11:45am on Feb. 15 then hosting league-leading Minot at Noon on Feb. 16.

Pictured above are the first members of the Langdon-Munich 10,000 shot club. The Cardinals Sports Boosters challenged all kids in grades K-6 to work on their shots and put up 10,000 basketball shots between Oct. 1 and Feb. 1, and these are the ones that made it, with many others coming close. They were honored at halftime of the Langdon-Munich/North Star School Day game on Feb. 7, and also each got a commemorative tee-shirt. The next chance for kids to join them will announced soon. Congratulations to these future Cardinals players! Lady Cards lose last regular season game, head to postseason with 12-7 record

The Langdon-Munich Cardinals girls basketball team had their last regular game of the 2024-25 season at home versus Grafton on Senior Night Feb. 7. Lady Cards seniors Meredith Romfo and Mikaela Olson were honored before the game, along with their parents. The Cardinals showed flashes but lost the game to the Spoilers 6249. Their record is now 12-7 on the year, and they begin postseason play as the top seed in the District 3 Girls Basketball Tournament, which is being held in Rolla Feb. 14-17. They play eighth-seeded Cavalier in the opening round at 3:00pm. Hear all the games on 95.7 My FM, myborderland.com and on the MyBorderland App.

EAGLES BEAT CARDINALS IN HIGHLY ENTERTAINING GAME AT THE LANGDON GYM

In one of the more highly anticipated basketball games of the winter sports season, the North Border Eagles, ranked third in the state, came to Langdon to take on the Langdon-Munich Cardinals in a two-point District 3 contest. In a game filled with excitement from start to finish, the Eagles beat the Cards 69-63. That win, coupled with a comeback victory against St. John in Walhalla 66-57 on Feb. 5, moves the Eagles record to a perfect 14-0. They will play at Drayton-Valley- Edinburg in Drayton on Feb. 10 and at May-Port-C-G on Feb. 13.

Blades lose rare back-to-back games at home, win at Northwood

By Jake Kulland, Sports Editor The Langdon Blades Junior Gold hockey team had a busy league weekend with one game at Dakota Spirit Arena. They played on Jan. 31 at Fargo then Feb. 1 against the Richland Rangers at the DSA. They lost two frustrating games, 6-1 to the Phantoms and 3-0 to the Rangers. Langdon got some redemption when they finished off the busy weekend by winning at Northwood on Feb. 3, 2-0. The Blades now have a 7-5 record in the North Dakota Junior Gold league standings, and they are playing in a rare tournament in Siren, Wisc., on Feb.7-9 before they have their next league game at home on Feb. 15 versus Northwood. Feb. 16 they play against league leading Minot. The Langdon 19U girls team played in a jamboree at Watford City Jan. 31-Feb. 2, where they beat Bismarck, lost to Hazen, and tied Richland. The Blades girls have another jamboree on Feb. 7-9, this time one that counts in the league standings at Hazen. Both Blades teams are getting ready for their respective state tournaments, which will both be held in Minot the first weekend of March.

Royals take on UND at Dakota Spirit Arena

The LRSC Royals faced off with the UND Club Team in first ever college hockey game to be hosted at the Dakota Spirit Arena. LRSC swept two games, going 7-0 on Jan. 31 and 7-2 on Feb. 1. The Royals will play Minn. Crookston at the Dakota Spirit Arena on Feb. 14 at 7 p.m.
