Gas prices dip slightly across North Dakota There’s been some relief at the pump over the past week, according to GasBuddy on April 20. The site reports North Dakota gas prices have dropped about 5 cents in the last seven days, bringing the statewide average to around $3.54 per gallon. Despite the recent dip, prices remain 15 cents higher than a month ago and 54 cents above where they were at this time in 2025.

Policy Solutions President Jay Truitt says the ongoing conflict in Iran and control over oil flows are reshaping global trade dynamics. “I think if you just observe the situation, regardless of what your political beliefs are, to think that the president has either through luck or his absolute intention created a dynamic that puts the United States basically as the world’s largest oil trader right now, at least from a permission and allowance standpoint,” Truitt said. “Never in history has the U.S. actually been able to do this, both to its friends and to its enemies.” That shift could complicate upcoming trade talks with China as energy access becomes a key issue alongside agriculture.
