Mass of Christian Burial was held January 17, 2026, in East Grand Forks, Minn., for Harry Jacob Kram, 77, of Grand Forks, N.D., who passed away Friday, Jan. 10, 2026, after a long, courageous battle with cancer at Heather’s House Hospice in Fargo, N.D. Burial will be in the spring at Calvary South Cemetery in Grand Forks, N.D.
Harry was born June 16, 1948, in Langdon, N.D., to Anton and Jean (Bergman) Kram. Harry attended school in his hometown of Wales, N.D., until eighth grade when he went to the Cardinal Muench Seminary in Fargo from freshman year of high school through college. After deciding to leave the seminary, he continued studying mathematics at NDSU and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1970. He married Gail Stevens on Oct. 17, 1970, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Langdon. They lived on the Lester and Helen Stevens farmstead east of Wales from 1970 until moving to Langdon in 1979. Harry worked at the missile base near Langdon from 1970-1973 then began a long career at the Langdon U.S. Post Office from 1973 until he retired in 2009. Harry began farming with father-in-law Lester Stevens in the 1970s and took over the farm in 1984. Harry retired from farming in 2014.
Harry married Jane (Olson) Nelson on Nov. 30, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in East Grand Forks, Minn., and he gained a son in Dillon Nelson. Harry and Jane moved to Grand Forks, and Harry started working with Jane at Bud & Ralph’s Appliance Service. They sold the business in 2021 and retired.
Harry served on the St. Alphonsus Foundation Board for 25 years. He also served on the St. Alphonsus School Board, Cavalier County Library Board, Cavalier County Right to Life Board, and was in the Knights of Columbus at St. Alphonsus, serving as Grand Knight from 1997-1998. He sang in the choir at St. Alphonsus and later joined the Sacred Heart Catholic Church choir as well. He and Jane volunteered for the Fire Hall Theater in Grand Forks, as well as with local food shelves.
He is survived by his wife, Jane; daughters: Leslie McVicker of Belle Plaine, Minn., and Jennifer (Casey) Garske of Hopkins, Minn.; stepson Dillon (Megan) Nelson of East Grand Forks; grandchildren Abigail and Cooper Garske and Riley and Hunter Nelson; siblings: Deb Hagen, Roger (Bernice) Kram, and Shelly (Bob) Silletto, and in-laws Harvey (Patty) Metzger and Nancy Kram; additional in-laws: Carol (Pat) Cook, Becky (Nick) Sevart, Debbie (Joe) Horan, Patricia Stevens, Pam (Gerald) Omlid, Becky (Lyle) Hangsleben and Mark (Diane) Olson; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gail; his parents, Anton and Jean Kram; sister Judy (Kram) Metzger; brother Paul Kram; and brothers-inlaw Ronald Stevens and Roger Hagen. Memorials preferred to St. Alphonsus School in Langdon, Sacred Heart Catholic Church in East Grand Forks, the Cancer Center of North Dakota in Grand Forks, and Hearts in Action (HIA) Hospice or HIA Heather’s House in Fargo, N.D.
