A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on June 4, 2026, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Brooks Funeral Home in Langdon, N.D., for Donald D. “Skip” Spenst, 85, of Grand Forks, N.D., who passed away peacefully on May 11, 2026, at Maple View Memory Care in Grand Forks.
Born on June 21, 1940, in Langdon, N.D., Donald “Skip” was the son of John and Isabelle Spenst. Known for his outgoing personality, Skip was a high school teacher, coach, and had a love of the outdoors. He was a guard for Alsen, N.D., basketball team that racked up 79 straight wins and two state championships in 1957-1958.
Skip is survived by his sons: Darin Spenst of Warroad, Minn., and Wade Spenst of Corpus Christi, Texas; daughter Candace Courtright of Jamestown, N.D.; their mother, Betty Kukla, of West Fargo, N.D.; and brothers: Ronald Spenst of Columbia Hts., Minn., and Jack Loewen of Apple Valley, Minn. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sharon Spenst Drew Lake, of Dallas, Texas.
