Louis M. Schneider was born July 25, 1928, in Hannah, N.D. He was raised on the family farm, where he developed the strong work ethic and quiet determination that would guide him throughout his life. Following his graduation from Hannah High School, Louie helped on the family farm until he was drafted into the Army in 1951. The summer of 1950 changed Louie’s life when he met “the one,” Jean Rosenberger, at a Fourth of July dance. Their romance continued through heartfelt letters while Louie served in the military and Jean pursued her nursing education. Louis attended school in Wahpeton, completing his training as a plumber. Their love endured the distance, and on May 12, 1954, they were united in marriage. Together they built a beautiful life centered on faith, family and devotion to one another.
In the early years of their marriage, Louie worked as a plumber while Jean worked as a nurse. In 1955, they moved to Calvin, where they began farming and made their home until retiring from the farm in 1988. During those early years, Louie also installed the plumbing for much of Calvin and many of the surrounding communities, leaving a lasting mark on the area through his skilled craftsmanship. Early retirement years were spent in Langdon, N.D.; Lillian, Ala.; and later Bismarck.
Together, Louie and Jean built a life rooted in hard work, faith and devotion to one another. Their partnership was one of unwavering love and support, and together, they raised three children: Barb, Teresa and Kent. Louie and Jean shared an extraordinary 71 years of marriage, creating a legacy of love that continues through their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Louis is survived by his children: Barb (Perry) Thomas, Teresa (Dave) Bawden and Kent (Renae) Schneider; seven grandchildren: Katie, Becca, Greta, Michael, David, Tommy and Marlee; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jean, and was the last living member of the Ray and Elsie Schneider family.
