Karen Ann (Mahar) Beaudine

A visitation will be held at Askew Funeral Home in Cavalier, N.D., on Thursday, October 8th, 2026, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. followed by a prayer service and a time of sharing, for Karen Ann (Mahar) Beaudine, 79, of Cavalier and formerly of rural Hamilton, N.D., who passed away Wednesday, September 9th, 2026, at her home. Karen was born on January 12th, 1947, and was the youngest daughter of Nellie (Phelps) Mahar and Ray Mahar. She attended grade and high school in Hamilton, N.D., graduating from Hamilton High in 1965. Following her graduation from high school, Karen attended the St. Francis School of Nursing in Fargo, N.D., completing her degree and passing the nursing state board exam, qualifying for licensure in both North Dakota and Minnesota. Karen worked at Pembina County Memorial Hospital for a brief time following graduation and prior to moving to Fargo, where she shared her time and talents at Dakota Hospital, Dakota Clinic, St. John's Hospital and the American Nursing Centers of Fargo, N.D., and Moorhead, Minn.

It was while she was in Fargo that she met John A. Beaudine, a Fargo native, and they were wed on September 20th, 1969, at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Cavalier, N.D. They welcomed two children while residing in Fargo, Angela Marie and Kenneth Ray. Karen and her family later moved back to the rural Hamilton area as Karen wanted to help care for her father, Ray, who had been diagnosed with cancer. After her father's passing, Karen worked at Wedgewood Manor for a time and later became a Human Service Case Manager for Quad County Community Action, which later was renamed Red River Community Action. She worked in this position until her retirement, working closely with other case managers across the counties of Walsh, Nelson, and Pembina. She treasured and valued her many colleagues and enjoyed her role of helping others.

Karen and John were blessed with three precious grandchildren - Morgan, Cameo, and Ty Henry Longtin. Within the last few years, she too was blessed with two beautiful great-granddaughters, Blakely Marie Gust and Elliana Rose Moyer.

Karen enjoyed her many countless conversations, shared humor, and giggles with Wendy Lou Keena and Joyce Johnston, prior to Joyce's passing. She cherished her phone time with DaNae Enerson Cremeens, with whom she spoke often. Karen celebrated her visits with Barb Ryan, extended bonus family from Grandma Nellie's side, sharing stories and giggles from the past. The family is thankful for these significant relationships as Karen aged and became more bound to home.

Survivors include her children: Angela (Marvin) Longtin of rural Cavalier and Kenny Beaudine of Dumas, Texas; grandchildren: Morgan, Cameo (Keegan) and Ty Henry (Peyton); great grandchildren Blakely Gust and Elliana Moyer; sister Mary Berend; nephews: Jeff (Janet) Berend family and Jason Berend family; and bonus family, found later in life, Barb Ryan (Charley), Barb's children, Zach and Nikki Sears, and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents, Nellie and Ray Mahar; brother-in-law Bruce Berend; and her maternal and paternal grandparents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Faith in Action, Growing Hope in Pembina County, and the Pembina County Backpack Program.
