Daniel Wayne Johnson, 83, of Detroit Lakes, Minn., passed away peacefully on Sept. 15, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Dan was born on May 11, 1942, in Langdon, N.D., to Chris and Juanita Johnson. He grew up on the family farm and enjoyed the quiet charm of his hometown. After graduating from high school, he proudly served in the United States Navy and was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. After his military service, Dan was employed by Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, where he was consistently recognized for his dedication and top sales performance. In 1970, he married Corrine, and together, they raised three beloved children, Missy, Maari, and Chris, in Lake Park, Minn. Surrounded by the peace of rural life, Dan found joy in raising horses and instilled in his family the values of hard work and integrity. Later in life, Dan was blessed with the companionship of his special friend, Donna Jacobs. Their bond was filled with joy and adventure - from working in the yard during Minnesota summers to soaking up the Arizona sun in the winter. While in Arizona, their love for dancing made them local favorites at the VFW, and he found joy in attending his grandson's soccer games. Dan returned full-time to Minnesota in 2023, where he lived at The Estates in Moorhead and enjoyed the companionship of both old and new friends. His final months were spent at Ecumen in Detroit Lakes, where he continued to touch the lives of those around him.

Dan's personality was magnetic - he had a twinkle in his eye and a smile that lit up a room; his warmth made everyone feel welcome. He never met a stranger, was always ready with a story or one-liner, and had a heart as generous as the day is long. Whether he was working outdoors, playing pool, or enjoying a game of pinochle. Dan brought a spirited joy to everything he did. He is survived by his loving children: Missy Dosmann, Maari (Jon) Boatman, and Chris Johnson (Erin La-Forge); their mother, Corrine Johnson; and his cherished grandchildren, Colton and Caden Dosmann. He also leaves behind his special friend, Donna Jacobs; her daughters, Jenni (Jake) Melin and Gerilyn (Tristan) Kusnierek; and their children, Kyra and Jordan. His memory lives on through his sisters, Patty (Jerry) Hanson and Jeri Stremick-Mutcher, as well as dear cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, along with several cherished family members and friends who surely welcomed him home with open arms.
