Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at St. Alphonsus Church in Langdon, N.D., with visitation starting at 9:00 a.m. for Jean Westphal, 99, of Langdon, who passed away January 1, 2026, at Maple Manor Care Center in Langdon. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Langdon.

Jean Helen Schneider was born September 5, 1926, at Mt. Carmel, N.D., to John and Emma (Gapp) Schneider. She grew up and attended grade school in Mt. Carmel. On April 29, 1947, she married Walter “Mike” Westphal in Mt. Carmel. They made their home in Clyde, N.D., until 1951 when they moved to the Rock Lake area and farmed until 1984. They then moved to Langdon, where Jean lived in her home until 2011 before moving to Wheatland Estates and then Maple Manor Care Center.

Jean enjoyed gardening, knitting, and playing cards – especially pinochle. She was a member of Christian Mothers at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Rock Lake, Garden Club, Altar Society, and Catholic Daughters in Langdon.

Jean is survived by siblings: Mary Spratt, Bette Popowitz, Rick Schneider, Floyd (Shirley) Schneider; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter “Mike”; and siblings: James (Caroline), Jerome, Allen (Jeri), Bonnie (Mark) Fischer, Kathy Schneider, Leona Schneider, and Doris (Don) Borho.
