A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Maple Manor Care Center Chapel in Langdon, N.D., for Lillian Meling, 96, of Langdon, who passed away peacefully with her family by her side on May 8, 2026, at Langdon Prairie Health in Langdon, N.D. Burial of ashes will be at Milton Memorial Cemetery near Milton, N.D.
Lillian Thordarson was born April 28, 1930, in Gardar, N.D., to Eggert and Thora (Asmundson) Thordarson. She grew up in the Gardar area. On December 31, 1955, Lillian married Harlan Meling in Milton, N.D. They lived in Milton then moved to Langdon, N.D.
In 1949, Lillian worked at the Borg Memorial Home in Mountain, N.D, alongside her mother and Aunt Bertha. She later worked for the Milton Public School. Before moving to Osnabrock, Lillian volunteered at the Senior Citizens Center in Langdon, where she truly enjoyed her time and formed many lasting friendships. Lillian especially enjoyed visiting with family and friends and always looked forward to the daily phone calls she received from loved ones. In her spare time, she loved embroidering and collecting special treasures. Among her favorite collections were gnomes and snowmen, each one carefully cherished and proudly displayed. Anyone who had the opportunity to see her collections knew how much joy they brought her. Lillian’s faith, family, and friends were the center of her life. She was known for her warm spirit and her heartfelt hugs. If you were fortunate enough to know Lillian, you were fortunate enough to receive one of her wonderful hugs.
Surviving Lillian are her niece, Carol (Tom) Johnson; great-nephew Travis Peterson; great-niece Lisa (Cody) Myer; great-great-nephew Miles Myer; as well as several cousins. Lillian is preceded in death by her parents, Eggert and Thuridur (Thora) Thordarson; her husband, Harlan Meling, and her brother, Ted Thordarson.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Langdon Prairie Health for the compassionate care that they provided to Lillian. A very special thank you is also extended to Maple Manor and Osnabrock Community Living Center for the wonderful care and kindness shown to her throughout the years. Also, a very special thank you to a dear friend of Lillian’s, Deb Krahn, whose friendship she treasured.
