#4 Eagles lose first game of season at #1 NR-S-M

In a battle of two of the top five teams in North Dakota 9-man football, the fourth-ranked North Border Eagles played at number one New Rockford- Sheyenne-Maddock on Sept. 12. The Rockets, who are the defending 9-man champions, won by a final score of 48-8. For the Eagles, it's their first loss of the season and put their record at 3-1 overall. North Border has their next two games at home, versus Larimore on Sept. 19 then Sept. 26 for Homecoming against St. John, with both games played in Walhalla.

Still in search of their first win of the season, the North Border Eagles girls volleyball team went to Cavalier for a District 3 match on Sept. 16. After dropping the first two sets 25-14 and 25-13, the Eagles played well in set three but lost in extra points 26-24 to lose the match 3-0. North Border is now 0-8 on the season and played at Langdon-Munich on Sept. 18. They then have two home matches in Walhalla versus Nelson County on Sept. 22 and in Pembina against Larimore on Sept. 23. Cavalier moved their record up to 4-5. In their match in Cavalier, the Eagles fell behind early in sets one and two but jumped to leads of 7-4 and 13-9 in set three before things went back and forth from there. The Eagles got down 22-19 but came back to tie it up at 22 and then 24 all, only to lose by two. Colbie Furstenau had the final two kills for the Tornadoes.

Lady Cards get a sweep win in first regular season match versus Grafton

After a third-place finish at the Northern Cass Volleyball Tournament, the Langdon-Munich Cardinals hosted the Grafton Spoilers in their first regular season match of the season on Sept. 4, which was also Homecoming for the team. The Lady Cards won the match by a sweep in set scores of 2518, 25-19 and 25-16. Langdon-Munich played a JV match at Dunseith on Sept. 9 and also played at Cavalier on Sept. 11. They will participate in a tournament in Valley City on Sept. 13 then in the week ahead play at St. John on Sept 16. Their next home match is versus the North Border Eagles on Sept. 18 in Langdon.

Cardinals, Eagles off to 3-0 starts to the high school football season It’s been very good times for high school football in our area. Both of the teams that we cover here in The Borderland Press are unbeaten to begin the season with records of 3-0. Both squads have also generated a lot of buzz across the state. Langdon-Munich is ranked first in the latest Class A 11-man football poll for the second straight week. North Border has been ranked either third or fourth so far in the 9-man poll and have been playing well on both sides of the ball. The fun continues tonight on Sept. 12; many of you who get this paper will watch Langdon-Munich host Belcourt or watch North Border have their biggest test of the season at defending 9 -man champions, #1-ranked New Rockford-Sheyenne.

Eagles lose District 3 volleyball home match in Pembina to M-M

After losing an exciting match in Rolla at North Prairie 3-1 on Sept. 4, the North Border Eagles girls volleyball team had their first home match of the year in Pembina versus Midway-Minto on Sept. 9. The Eagles got swept by the Mustangs in three close sets, losing 25-23, 25-19 and 25-23.

Eagles fly to win over Four Winds on Senior Night

The North Border Eagles looked to move their record to 2-0 when they had their first home game of the season in Walhalla, which was also Senior Night for the Eagles. Colton Bailly, Brody Berg, Kade Schaefer, Gavin Symington, Trevor Moore and Lance Santiago were the six seniors that were honored with their parents. North Border also got a big win, beating the Indians 54-14. The Eagles will play at Midway-Minto on Sept. 5 then will have a huge game at New Rockford- Sheyenne-Maddock on Sept. 12. North Border got things going against Four Winds in a hurry, scoring 30 points in the first quarter- 18 of them on scoring runs of 47, 49 and five-yard runs by Brody Berg. Kaden Moore had two 2-point conversions on Weston Cosley after each touchdown. Oakley Brown capped off the high scoring first frame with an electrifying punt return TD, and Zeke Symington had his first of two touchdown catches just before halftime.
