A funeral service was held March 7, 2026, in Langdon, N.D., for Eleanora Roder, 99, of Langdon, who passed away March 1, 2026, at St. Catherine’s North in Fargo, N.D. Burial in the spring will be at Lebanon Cemetery, Langdon.
Eleanora Ruth Roder came into the world at home near Alsen, N.D. She was born November 25, 1926, to Jacob and Martha (Ertmann) Schanz, the second of 6 children. She attended school in Gordon Township, followed by working at home to help her mother with the care of her siblings and household chores. In 1947, she left home to move to Grand Forks, where she was employed across the Red River at the Minnesota National Bank in East Grand Forks, Minn.
Eleanora’s family attended the EUB church in Langdon, as did Donald Ray Roder, a nice young man. On October 11, 1948, they married. Their first home was on the Roder family farm, where they welcomed their two children, Beverly Kaye and Randy Ray. Eleanora was a wife who, in addition to housekeeping and cooking, helped with many facets of the farm when needed; sewed clothing; cared for the children; and served her church in various capacities. Eleanora and Donald did a lot of traveling with good friends and did some missionary work abroad.
Don and Eleanora retired to a house in Langdon and began a new phase of life titled grandparents, a sheer pleasure and gift from God. After Donald passed away March 2, 1991, Eleanora continued to spend time with her children and grands, sold her Langdon house, and lived out her life in Fargo, back in the company of her sisters and her son’s family.
Eleanora is survived by daughter Beverly Moos of Medina, Minn.; son Randy Roder and wife Sandra Thiel of Fargo, N.D.; grandson Bradley and wife Cheri Moos of Lutz, Fla.; great-granddaughter Lucy; grandson Jeffrey and wife Josephine (Hagert) Moos of Shoreview, Minn.; great-granddaughter Amaris; grandson Adam Roder and wife Emily Beck of Fargo, N.D.; sister Doris of Fargo, N.D.; and sisters-inlaw Joyce Schanz and Cheri Schanz of Langdon, N.D. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Donald; brothers: LeRoy, Allen, and Orlin; sister Dorothy Clark; son-in-law Ken Moos; sisters-in-law Grace Schanz and Ilene Schanz; and brothers-in-law Edwin Bowser and Gordon Clark.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to Emmanuel Evangelical Church.
