DAKOTA DATEBOOK: Spring Has Sprung – Almost

Body
On March 11, 1935, the high temperature for Fargo was predicted to be 26 degrees with 25 mile an hour winds. But even though it was over a month until Easter, spring was on the minds of North Dakotans.

Lady Cards come one step away from a State B tournament appearance twice but see season end

Body
By Jake Kulland, Sports Editor It was one crazy ride for the Langdon- Munich girls basketball team in the Region 2B Girls Basketball Tournament, which was held Feb. 23-26 in Larimore and also in Mayville on Feb. 28. The Lady Cards beat Park River-Fordville-Lankin in the first round 54-42, defeated District 3 champion Hatton-Northwood 59-47 in semifinals, then lost in the Region 2B championship to Benson County, 5136. That put the Cardinals in a State B qualifying game at Mayville State University on Feb. 28, where they lost a tough game to Linton-HMB, 36-33. Langdon-Munich saw their season come to an end with a record of 187. Cards freshman Hilary Haaven was named to the All-Region 2B team. Aubrey Kenner of Benson County was named Senior Athlete of the Year, and Tony Evenstad was honored with the Region 2B Coach of the Year award.

A big hockey weekend in Watford City As most of you read this, we will be in Watford City for the weekend covering the State Junior Gold boys and 19U girls hockey tournaments. The boys are seeded second and are trying for their second Junior Hold title. The girls will have a tougher path, as the young team is in a pool with unbeaten Watford City. There are seven teams in the Junior Gold league this season and six in the girls. As some of you may have heard, there has been a lot of talk lately about starting up Class B high school hockey in North Dakota. From what I have also heard, that will be a couple years down the line if it happens at all. It would be great to see, but there are many, many things to get worked out before it would come to reality. You can hear all hockey games from Watford City (if you haven't already) on KNDK 1080 and on the MyBorderland App.
