The Merry Month of May is here Well, we have made it through a chilly April, and now we roll into the month of May. The temps seemed to have turned around, as we are looking forward to much more spring-like type weather for the foreseeable future. Field work has begun for some of our readership area, and things should be rolling for everyone in the week ahead. This also means that outdoor spring activities will go into high gear. We will look forward to Tournament Time in a couple of weeks with the State Track Meet coming to Bismarck on Memorial Day weekend. It should be a fun run to graduation. Let’s hope everyone has a safe and breakdown free time of getting the crop in.

The coming of warmer weather, finally, has allowed the Langdon-Munich Cardinals girls softball team to get their schedule moving. The Lady Cards had a comeback 12-11 win over Larimore for their first Region 2 victory of the year on April 24 then traveled to a jamboree at Des Lacs-Burlington April 25-26. At the jamboree, they throttled Rugby 28-5 then lost to Harvey-Wells County 12-3 and also to DL-B, 16-3. After that run, Langdon-Munich came home to play Grafton on April 29 and lost a hard-fought contest, 8-6. The Cardinals are now 2-5 on the season and have their next three games on the road: at Northern Lights on May 1, at Midway-Minto on May 5, and then in McVille to play Nelson County in a makeup game on May 6. Here is a recap of their exciting win over Larimore: The Lady Cards fell behind the Polar Bears early, by as much as 8-3, before they began their rally. Raeleigh Ratzlaff had an RBI single and Kenadee Cluchie a run-scoring double in a four-run second inning. The Cardinals would then tie the game in the fourth on a solo home run by Meredith Romfo, followed by a go-ahead single by Nora Lorenz. Langdon-Munich scored three unearned runs in the fifth to take an 11-8 lead only to see Larimore tie the game at 11 with three runs in the top of the sixth. That set the stage for the game winner for the Lady Cards in the bottom of the seventh inning. Ratzlaff and Romfo singled to get the frame underway, then Cluchie hit a double to left to score Ratzlaff and win the game in walk-off fashion.

Waiting impatiently for the big warm up We begin this week by saying we are still waiting for things to warm up around here. Field work is still at a standstill, as rain has fallen, which has backed things up a bit. The week ahead doesn’t look much better for warmer temps, but the hope is that when we get to May, things will take off around here. It’s been a tough run for spring sports as well. A few activities outdoors have been happening, but it takes a hardy person to sit out and take them in. As always, the fans seem to have it the worst. Sitting in one place for too long almost feels like frostbite is ready to set in. We were in Munich for a game on April 17, and we want to put a shout out to Matt Mitzel, Seth Hanson, and First Insurance of Munich for actually bringing a trailer down for us to broadcast a game there at Edgar Westphal Field. We were out of the wind and very grateful to be able to do so. We even got some free First Insurance pens out of the deal, so thanks to Bobby, Breanne and crew for making our time on the air tolerable. We always get treated like kings in Munich, and don’t think it goes unnoticed.
